Weavers Yr 9 Basketball – Runners Up in National Finals! |
|
A huge congratulations to the Yr 9 Boys Basketball team who narrowly missed out on winning the national title. This is a massive achievement for the boys who have only been playing together since October, and some of the team have only started playing basketball this year. The boys beat Ivybridge from Devon 87-66 in the semi-final with captain Hayden Alcindor dominant in both offense and defence. The final didn’t go as intended and the boys lost out to Bridgewater School from Warrington. The boys conducted themselves with dignity and maturity on the day and can be proud of all of their achievements this year.
Well done boys. Team: H.Alcindor, K.Salmon, S.Reid, E.Ringisai, A.Cooper, D.Clark, T.Tompkins, B.Olrod, J.Howie, D.Sims.
A big thank you to Danny Alexis and Mr Frater for all of their support this year.

Jo Blake Cave who is Resident Storyteller at the Royal and Derngate Theatre, visited Weavers this term and regaled KS3 students with some exciting stories.
Jo’s first story, for Year 9 students, was an old Welsh myth from a medieval collection called “The Mabinogian". The story features Branwen, daughter of Llyr who marries the King of Ireland, and her subsequent rescue by her mighty giant of a brother, Bran. The tale included some bloodthirsty moments!
